General Description:

The experimental approach is very frequent in many engineering professions and specialties (e.g. R&D, design, production/mechanics, materials, processes). This course aims to give the essential tools to conduct an experimental protocol, but also to criticize a result produced by others, in his team or with partners. It is organized around four items :

- an experimental result is marred by random or systematic errors. A correct interpretation of the results cannot be made without estimating the uncertainty associated with a measurement and its propagation.

- the measurand rarely makes a result explicit, and a signal processing step must be carried out, for example to highlight periodic effects (Fourier transform), fine variations (phase analysis).

- the definition of a set of tests leading to a usable result requires reflection on the choice of the experimental situations to be tested, in order to minimize the number of tests while ensuring a maximum quality of the behavioral model retained (experimental designs). The result is classically the sensitivity of an indicator to certain parameters.
