General Description:

This multi-disciplinary project will help students to acquire a better approach to their future career in an international and/or intercultural context (in France or abroad) by avoiding the main dysfunctions linked to intercultural issues and developing their capacity to adapt to a multi-cultural context. The student will sign up for one of the central themes, having received beforehand a detailed description of each theme. The content and organisation of each workshop (nine in total) will be adapted to the topic being covered (societal, geographic, scientific), as will the assessment methods. Certain workshops will take place in class at the School, others in structures or organisations in St-Etienne or in the region. Sometimes there will be a mixture of both. In all cases student presence is compulsory to validate the module (Pass/Fail), along with work on completion of the course, presented individually or in groups, depending on the workshop. Details of the scientific content, the teaching methods and the assessment method will be provided at the beginning of the week. 

The module is divided into three central themes:

  • « Societal » interculturality
  • « Geographical » interculturality
  • « Scientific » interculturality

Programme and content

Project scientific

School activity: interventions once or twice a week in a primary school or college class (6 to 14 yrs old) to make science come alive.
Scientific journalism: making reports, interviews or producing articles to facilitate the transmission of scientific approaches and researchs

Project sociétal

CHU/Megaphone: immersion in a situation of disability through role plays, then real life immersion to better understand what creates an obstacle between you and the “other”.
Globe 42 : creation of a communication tool for elderly migrants
Children allophones: meeting up with the “other” is not at all obvious. It is in fact very complex. Based on these observations we can wonder what comes into play in intercultural relations on a daily basis and how they can be facilitated.

Project géographical

This workshop is designed to allow future engineers to prepare for the challenges encountered in multicultural teamwork and to develop strategies for dealing with them. Sessions consist of a blend of cross-cultural theory and practice in the form of the resolution of short case.
