TB1 - MANAGEMENT OF WATER RESOURCES AND POLLUTED SITES

Edit

ECTS credits

2.5

Course Director(s):

  • PARAN Frédéric
  • General Description:

    This Toolbox offers a 39-hour training course on key environmental and industrial issues: 1) management of groundwater resources and the vulnerability of hydrosystems to anthropogenic activities; 2) management of polluted sites and soils. For each of these fields, the Toolbox offers, on the one hand, training in the naturalistic analysis of natural objects and processes, at different scales, and, on the other hand, training in the operational use of geomatics and numerical modelling tools, whose use is now essential in engineering environmental sciences.

    Links between course units:

    The GRESIPOL Toolbox includes two UPs: 1) UP1 relating to the management of water resources (24h including a field visit) and; 2) UP2 relating to the management of polluted sites and soils (15h). The concepts covered in the 2 UPs enable the complexity of the management of polluted sites and soils and the protection of resources, particularly water resources, to be understood through the notion of risk linked to the transfer of potentially dangerous elements (contaminants and pollutants) for underground and surface aquatic environments, ecosystems and human health.

    The Toolbox proposes to put into practice the notions discussed in a real case study to characterize the risks of transfer of metallic trace elements linked to the deposit of steel waste:

    - The UP1 gives the key elements to study the risks of transfers to groundwater and rivers;

    - UP2 proposes the essential notions to study contaminant transport (water-soil interactions, reactive transfer) and to propose methods of decontamination or remediation.

    In this Toolbox, students will work in pairs and will be assessed on a technical note. This technical note will present the case study by integrating the stakes and the studies carried out within the framework of the 2 UPs: site characterisation, characterisation of the risks of pollutant transfer, decontamination and remediation solution.

    Orientations / Associations with other courses:

    TB GRESIPOL is located upstream of or in addition to the major ENERGY PROCESS and the major URBAN AND INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT.
