General Description:
Industrial engineering for health-care services is a scientific area dedicated to the application of industrial engineering and operational research techniques to the healthcare domain. The goal of this module consists in presenting most relevant problems in management and organization of health-care systems that healthcare professionals have to deal with. Industrial engineering techniques will be applied or adapted to solve problems in this area.
A special focus will be given on home health-care and telemedecine topics, which are relevant challenge for the XXIst century. Scientific methodologies can be used in order to better control and use such innovative technologies.

Performance evaluation of health-care systems Speaker : Vincent Augusto Duration : 6h Engineering and re-engineering management tools for health-care systems will be presented in this course. The following problems will be examined: resource sizing using stochastic models, healthcare production system sizing and benchmarking, performance evaluation and control. Main topics are: Engineering and re-engineering of health-care production systems. Modelling and simulation for complex health-care systems, human resources sizing using simulation. Benchmarking and performance evaluation of health-care production systems: DEA method (Data Envelopment Analysis). Control of health-care systems taking into account the T2A, performance evaluation, continuous quality improvement. |
Course |
Lean management in health-care Speaker : Pierre Lebon Duration : 7.5 Lean is a set of operating philosophies and methods that help create a maximum value for patients by reducing waste and waits. It emphasizes the consideration of the customer’s needs, employee involvement and continuous improvement. This course propose an overview of successful and less successful implementation of Lean approaches in French hospitals. A case study is proposed. |
Course |
Home health-care and logistics Speaker : Thierry Garaix Duration : 6h This course intends to give formal methods to better model and control home health-care systems and associated areas of interest, such as logistics, workforce scheduling at home, economic balance of home health-care structures. |
Supervised studies |
Case studies for performance evaluation of health-care systems Speaker: Vincent Augusto Duration: 8.5h Application of simulation tools for the performance evaluation of health-care systems : operating theatre, perinatal care networok, emergency service. |
