This pedagogical unit (UP) allows students to acquire the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to understand the interactions between biomaterials and biological tissues. The program includes lectures and practical sessions covering essential concepts and principles in manufacturing processes, physico-chemistry, and biology. To expose students to the realities of biomaterials fabrication and usage, the program is completed by a visit to a company specialized in medical devices and/or a hospital department at the Saint-Étienne University Hospital (CHU).
The UP totalizes 39 hours. The course is taught in English, primarily at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS-Campus Santé Innovations). It is shared with the BMED (Biomedical Engineering and Design) Master's program, which offers in-depth teaching related to biomaterials research topics developed in the laboratory (biofabrication, bio-instructive materials, etc.) including several practical sessions.
