(Unité d'enseignement mutualisée avec le cursus ICM, Défi Santé et Médecine Personnalisées.)
This pedagogical unit (UP) is designed for students in the BMED Master's program and constitutes one of the advanced course pathways, with a choice between "Biomaterials" and "Biomechanics".
The UP "Advanced Biomaterials" is associated and synchronized with the UP "Biomaterials Science and Engineering" offered to engineering and master's students. The courses aim to deepen knowledge and address the issues and challenges surrounding the interactions between biomaterials and biological tissues. The topics covered (bio fabrication, bio-instructive materials, bone tissue engineering, etc.) are related to the research activities conducted in the laboratory. The lectures are complemented by a series of practical sessions allowing students to understand the stages of design, fabrication, and characterization of biomaterials in the laboratory, including a session dedicated to presenting research data.
The final exam will be an oral presentation where students must demonstrate the relevance of using a biomaterial for a given medical issue. Different case studies will be proposed during an introductory session at the beginning of the program.
The UP totalizes 39 hours. The course is taught in English, primarily at the Centre for Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering (CIS-Campus Santé Innovations).
