Description générale :

The objective of this course is to detail the advanced methods of decision support allowing the reduction of the industrialization cycle between the design of a new product and its appearance on the market, the reduction of manufacturing costs and the improvement of working conditions. It is based on two main parts :

  • Design of manufacturing systems - Three major issues in the design of manufacturing systems are discussed in depth and are illustrated with examples of concrete problems (Assembly line balancing, Mix-model and Multi-model lines, Resources assignment). Advanced methods based on known Operational Research techniques and recent research work are proposed for each type of problem.
  • Performance evaluation - The formalities of representation and techniques for evaluating the performance of production systems are discussed here. The discrete event simulation already discussed elsewhere will not be addressed and we focus on analytical tools for performance evaluation.
    • Modeling of dynamic behaviors: Automaton, Petri nets, Markov chains, Queueing networks, etc.
    • Performance evaluation with Markov chains, Queueing networks and Petri nets
    • Performance evaluation of production lines
    • Performance evaluation of Kanban systems
