General Description:
This course aims to endow students with the understanding of the main concepts and business impacts of cloud and edge computing. The main cloud service models (i.e., Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS)) and cloud architectures will be introduced with a focus on the on-demand use of computer system resources like data storage and computing power. The fundamental characteristics, architectures, and economics and ethical aspects of cloud computing will be detailed. The main features of edge computing will be introduced highlighting its distinctions to cloud computing. Practical sessions will use Amazon AWS, a well known public cloud computing provider. Practical sessions will use a well known platform provider such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
This teaching unit counts for 3 credits (/30 total for a semester).
